The Construction Design Management regulations require that a Planning Supervisor is appointed on all but the smallest of projects to ensure that the safety of contractors and users is protected throughout the design and construction process and beyond.

It can be particularly difficult to provide the necessary safeguards in refurbishment work, especially where historic buildings are involved.
